FAQ

Juggling it all… What are the FAQs?

What inspired you to return to school in your 40s?

Aside from the obvious mid-life crisis?!
Well, I famously “joke” that I got side tracked by money and how fabulous my £4.20, minimum-wage-for-a-22-year-old offer at 17 was. But that was it. I thought I was made with a retail supervisory role and the prospect to climb the ladder. Climb I did and was manager by age 19. But my love of retail has long since died and I knew it was time.

How do you balance studies with family and work?

“Sleep is for the weak!” – my mantra.
Not going to lie, I struggle a bit, but always get there in the end. It’s important to carve out dedicated time for all of the things. Study time often comes when everyone else has gone to sleep. I aim to improve this (but don’t hold your breath!).

What are some humorous moments you’ve experienced as a student?

The lecturer falling asleep in a lecture. (Not their own, thankfully.)

What advice would you give others considering returning to school?

It’s never too late to follow your dreams. (Is that a bit cheesy?) Seriously though, GO FOR IT! It’s a tough road at times, and you’ll doubt yourself a LOT, but push on. Every day you complete in class, every assignment you hand in or every exam you smash will boost your confidence and help you see that this student lark isn’t just for the young’uns.
